It detects the presence of voltage within an insulated wire as well as in the immediate vicinity. Voltage detection is signalled by a flashing LED and an intermittent audible tone.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe detector operates based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. Upon activation, the device operates in low-sensitivity mode, detecting voltage at a distance of approximately 3 cm from the source. In high-sensitivity mode, it detects electromagnetic fields at distances of up to over ten centimetres from the source. The detector also enables the \"non-contact\" detection of breaks in live electrical wires; the device stops signalling the presence of voltage at the point of the break.
